The victims were freed on 10th July 2026, after 56 days in captivity. The rescue was carried out by a coalition of Nigerian security agencies without concession to the kidnappers’ demands, which had included ransom payment and the release of detained terrorist commanders. The appointments, ratified by the CSA Executive Committee, follow an open call that drew over a thousand applications from students across the Commonwealth. Each application was carefully reviewed for demonstrated experience in grassroots mobilisation, a genuine passion for student advocacy, and a track record of student leadership; with one Campus Ambassador selected to represent each participating institution.
